WAYNE DOES FLYER IN 25 MILE TIME TRIAL

Wayne Randall recorded the fastest 25 time of the season so far by a BRC rider.  In virtually perfect conditions he flew round the Heanor Clarions 25 on the A25/11 in a time of 56.25 giving him 8th position overall.  Wayne knocked a massive 2 minutes and 36 seconds off his pb!!  He wasn't far behind the winners time, Carl Miller in 54.11.  Well done Wayne.

SATURDAY 23RD JULY 2011

Wayne Randall and Dek Crawshaw rode in the Wolds RT10mile time trial on the V718.  Wayne recorded the fastest time with 22.22 and Dek did 22.45.  Wayne described the conditions as tail wind on the shorter leg out and headwind on the longer return leg.  Winner was Michael Hutchinson in 18.25.

Please note that this Thursday's (7th July 2011) special event is a 2-Up time trial on the Grimethorpe bypass. Solo riders are also welcome.  Points from BRC riders will count towards the special events competition.

SUNDAY 19TH JUNE 2011

STEVE SETS GOOD TIME AT NEW DISTANCE

Riding the seldom raced distance of 15 miles on the V728 course at Hull on a cold, wet and windy morning Steve Roper set a good time of 34.08.  This is BRC's best male 15 mile time trial time.  Winner of the event was Joel Wainman in 29.46.  Well done Steve.

SATURDAY 18TH JUNE 2011

DODWORTH DESTROYER RETURNS

Derek Crawshaw rode the North Mids VTTA 25 mile time trial on the 025/3 Ranby course in North Notts.  In very windy and cool conditions due to his late start time he recorded a time of 58.59 putting him at the top of the Clubs leaderboard for the fastest 25 mile time trial of the season so far.  Ian Cammish won in a time of 51.27.  Well done Dek!

TUESDAY 14TH JUNE 2011

STEVE JUST SHORT OF PB

Steve Roper rode the City Road Club (Hull) V718 course on Tuesday evening.  A race of 2 halves, with all the early starters having the more favourable conditions.  After 8pm the temperature quickly fell as the wind rose and the traffic eased.  Steve was off at 8.25pm and managed a great time of 21.52 which was only 10 seconds short of his pb.  Winner was Stuart Dodd in a time of 19.04.  Well done Steve.

SATURDAY 11TH JUNE 2011

Neil Dyson was the only BRC rider competing in the Fusion CC 10mile time trial on the Hatfield Woodhouse, 010/1 course today.  With very strong crosswinds Neil described it as "character building"!  He recorded a time of 23.52 to put him in 21st place out of a field of 44 riders.  The winner was Julian Rambo Ramsbottom in a time of 20.53.  Well done Neil.

SUNDAY 5TH JUNE 2011

PAUL SPRINTS TO 4TH

Paul Ruta raced in the LVRC Category 60 and over 42 mile road race near Newark.  8 riders including Paul managed to get away with 2 laps to go.  This group whittled down even further to leave 5 riders on the last lap with Paul sprinting and earning 4th position.  Good ride Paul after your 10 mile time trial yesterday. He is now off to Italy for some warm weather training.

On May 29th Paul also rode in the LVRC Category 60 and over 43 mile road race near Garstand in Lancashire.  4 riders including Paul got away from the main bunch with 2 laps to go and Paul sprinted to 3rd place.  Well done Paul.

SATURDAY 4TH JUNE 2011

FIVE FINE RIDES

5 BRC riders rode in the YCF 10 mile time trial on the V718.  Headwind on the longer return leg made it tough going but nevertheless Neil Dyson managed a pb.  Not so fortunate was Wayne Randall whose chain came off yet again losing valuable seconds.  Think it's time to spend some money Mr Randall!!  Steve Roper didn't start due to illness.  The event was won by Nino Piccoli in a time of 19.32.  Our lads times were:

Neil Dyson - 21.50 (pb)

Rob Barnard - 22.39

Wayne Randall - 22.42

Dek Crawshaw - 22.42

Paul Ruta - 22.54

SATURDAY 28TH MAY 2011

BARNARD BATTERED BY WIND!

Rob Barnard rode the Holme Valley Wheelers 25 mile time trial on the V232 but was hampered by strong gusty crosswinds.  Although he arrived at the turn faster than 2 weeks ago on the same course his eventual time of 1.02.13 was infact slower than previous.  Adam Duggleby won with a time of 50.54 which was 3.30 faster than the 2nd placed rider.  Tink is getting fed up of these windy rides to say the least but they will pay off when he next gets a "float"!!  Well done Tink!

Riding on the same day in the Mapperley CC 10 mile trial was Dek Crawshaw.  He recorded a time of 23.41 in what he described as tough conditions.  Winner was Matt Bottrill who stormed round in 19.49.  Well done Dek.

SATURDAY 21ST MAY 2011

DYSON DIDN'T QUITE CLEAN UP!!

Neil Dyson rode in his first open event of the season.  He competed in the middle markers 10 mile time trial on the V718.  With a strong crosswind both ways he came 4th out of 150 riders with a time of 22.18 (pb) only missing out on 3rd place by 4 seconds.  The winning time was 21.27.  Well done Neil.

BARNARD RIDES WITH THE BIG BOYS!

Also in action today was Rob Barnard who was competing with the big boys in the National 10 mile Time Trial Championship on the T102 course near Hartlepool. The conditions were not favourable, with a very strong headwind on the way out, making all the riders suffer - most recorded times a good two minutes slower than their normal standard. Tink recorded a time of 25.11 finishing in 107th position.  Winner was Bradley Wiggins in a time of 19.14, followed by Hutch in 19.55, and youngster Joe Perrett with 20.26.  Well done Tink!

 TUESDAY 17TH MAY 2011

Steve Roper rode in the City RC Hull midweek10 mile time trial clocking a time of 22.23.  He says the conditions were tough with a headwind back on the longer return leg of the V718 course.

SATURDAY 14TH MAY 2011

On a hard and very windy day Rob Barnard (Tink) rode a 25 mile time trial on the V232 at Dishforth.  Tink was pretty miffed to miss the hour again with a time of 1.00.32.  Winner was Mark Thaxter with a time of 53.22.  With my new time keeping skills I would have got you under the hour Tink!!  Well done anyway in the tough conditions.

Saturday 30th April

COURSE PB FOR ROB BARNARD (TINK)

BRC rider Rob Barnard today competed in the Birdwell Wheelers 25 mile time trial on the Hatfield course.  He described the conditions as cross head wind to Crowle with a pretty quick return.  The rest of the course was crosswinds with the final leg being cross head winds which was just enough to stop him doing a well deserved sub hour ride.  Nevertheless Tink still recorded a great time and his course pb of 1.00.36, beating his previous time on that course by a minute.  Phil Graves won the event with a time of 51.42 which was also a new course record, 3 minutes quicker than Ian Dalton in second place.  Well done Tink!!

Sunday April 24th

COURSE PB FOR STEVE ROPER

Easter Sunday:  In the Rutland CC 10 mile time trial on the 010/1 Hatfield Woodhouse  Steve recorded a time of 23.07 knocking nearly 2 minutes off his previous best time for this course.  He described the conditions as mild with hazy sunshine and a gentle breeze.  The winner was Joel Mainman with a time of 20.56.

Friday April 22nd

DIXON LEADS THE WAY AS RECORDS ARE SMASHED

East Riding Council are in the process of resurfacing the V718 as a trio of BRC riders ripped up the tarmac!  In calm and warm conditions Rob Barnard started records tumbling at the Hull RC 10, with a ride early in the field, knocking a whopping 44 seconds off his PB with a time of 21.27. Next up was Lee Dixon, smashing his PB and the club 10 record by 23 seconds with a blistering time of 20.49. Completing the BRC trio was Paul Ruta who did a cracking time of 22.04.  This broke the current club 10 mile team record of 1.05.58 by 1 minute and 38 seconds with the new record now standing at 1.04.20.  The event was won by Michael Hutchinson with a time of 18.04.  Well done lads, storming rides.

Tuesday April 19th   CLUB RIDERS DOMINATE BIRDWELL WHEELERS 5 MILE  TT OPENER

Three of our riders were in action at the Birdwell Wheelers 5 mile Time Trial on the top road at Thurgoland.  With a strong field of 23 riders the lads all finished in the top 5.  In warm sunny conditions with just a gentle breeze Lee Dixon took top honours with a winning time of 12.09, 3 seconds faster than 2nd placed rider Trevor Mayne from the promoting club.  Riding his first event of the Season (and only his 2nd ever time trial) Dave Lawrence got his season off to a great start claiming 4th place with a time of 12.51.  Steve Roper was only 4 seconds behind with a time of 12.55 which gave him 5th place.  An excellent effort, well done lads!!!

April 9th.  STEVE ROPER RECORDS NEW PB.

BRC rider Steve Roper rode the Hull Thursday 10 mile time trial on the V718 recording a personal best time of 21.42.  A brilliant ride considering we are still in the early part of the Season.  The winner was Michael Hutchinson with a staggering time of 18.07 nearly 1 minute faster than second placed rider Kevin Dawson.  Well done Steve.

April 2nd. Road Club rider Neil Mountain along with friends travelled to Belgium to compete in the Tour of Flanders Sportif.  Neil's number was 23,898 with a total of 24,000 competitors!!  Neil described the cobbled climbs as "reasonably easy" but found the downhill and flat cobbled sections more testing to say the least.  He takes his hat off to the pro's as he said the tv doesn't do the cobbles justice.  He then stayed until Sunday and watched the pro's show how it should be done.

April 2nd.  Saturday. Well done Tink, another course personal best - this time on the slow O10/1 Hatfield Woodhouse - Blaxton course. A strong west wind meant cross winds on the A614 so not the best conditions for a PB.   Rob`s time in the Birdwell Whs `10` was 23mins 33secs.  Runaway winner was Julian Ramsbottom with 20min 30secs beating the 2nd placed man by 1min 13secs

Birdwell Wheelers have sent us a list of their club events for this year ... follow the link opposite to open the spreadsheet (needs Excel .... if you'd like it as a Word document instead please e-mail and it will be done!)

March 26th.  Saturday.  Two of our club members, Rob Barnard and Steve Roper rode the JE James 10 mile time trial on the 010/3 today.  Tink recorded a time of 22.52 but Steve just pipped him with a time of 22.44, this being Steve's first race of the 2011 Season.  Not ideal weather conditions for racing, being a mere 8 degrees.  The faster leg was on the way out with the return leg being harder especially on the drags.  Joint winners were Kevin Dawson and Ian Cammish (not bad for a 54 year old eh!) who both recorded a time of 20.20.

March 19th.  Saturday. Rob Barnard rode the Retford & District Whs. 10 mile time trial on the A10/21 at Tuxford in North Notts today. `Tink` recorded a time of 23mins 28secs, a mere 7secs slower than his course best time. In not ideal conditions, cross winds out and not much help coming back, it was considered a tough day. Another good ride Tink.  Julian (Rambo) Ramsbottom was the winner in 20mins 41secs.

March 12th. Saturday. North Mids Vets 18k TT. Club Sec. Rob Barnard got the 2011 racing off to a good start, in nice warm weather and riding in only a skinsuit, no arm warmers etc.  Tink made the most of the fast conditions to Blyth, there was a headwind for the last few miles, but even then there was shelter amongst the trees. Time - a personal best of 26 mins 07 secs, an improvement of over a minute on a time of 27-10 in 2007.  Kevin Dawson scorched round the course in 22mins 42 secs (that's what spinning with George can do for you). Next week Tink goes in the Retford & District Whs 10 at Tuxford in North Notts. Well done Tink.

JE James have agreed to sponsor a new time trial competition for the North Midlands district area. The competition is free for all riders registered as members with North Mids clubs.

There are two competitions - a time based one and a points one. All the details can be found on the website (follow the link opposite), which will be updated with the competition results as the season progresses.

September 25th.   Saturday, Hatfield Woodhouse near Doncaster. V.C.Chesterfield `10`, the last time they promote an event before disbanding. Dek Crawshaw really wellied it to the turn with the help of a northerly wind - just over 10mins. He finished with a time of 23m 21s, well done lad, it was hard coming back.  Kev Dawson won in 20m 14s, does owt slow that guy down ?

September 18th.  Saturday, Rob Barnard did a 2h 11m 25s ride in the Yorkshire R.C. `50` on the A168/A19 in North Yorks. After a favorable 1st 25miles (62mins Approx) the distance and wind got to him and he nearly `packed` several times. Well done fella, the Brian Hindley cup is yours for a year now.    Meanwhile down in Nottinghamshire Dek Crawshaw rode the C.D.L.C.A.`10`, he clocked 22m 20s, this race was also affected by the wind, Michael Hutchinson winning with a long `18`, Gary Empson was the only other rider to get inside  20mins

                 Dek Crawshaw `VC Chesterfield 10`

September 11th.  Saturday, V.T.T.A. Yorkshire Group `10`. Topcliffe, N.Yorks. Head wind coming back, Dek did 23m 10s, (he`s got a disc wheel now), Rob did 23m 55s. Winner only did 21m 11s.  We must be due a float day soon.

September 9th.  Thursday, Club meeting - Neil Mountain and John Westerman joined the Club, good to have you both on board.

August 29th.  Sunday, Team Swift Charity `10` V718 near Hull. A fine day with a savage rising west wind, as the day went on the wind got up more. Rob riding in the `slow` event got the best conditions and recorded 22mins 54secs. Good `un Tink. In the `overflow` event Dek decided not to start, as did Lee in the `fast` event. Steve, who was a reserve in the `fast` event rode starting at 3-25pm when the wind was blowing a right gale. Going out, he was `spinning out` on 53x11 & the turn was reached in 9min 30secs. !!!  The return leg was a nightmare, block headwind and then his front mech jammed on the big ring. --- time 24mins 31secs. Sorry about laughing mate, thats how it goes sometimes.

August 21st.  Saturday, `10` organised by Hartlepool CC on the T102 (Crathone - Tontine) on the A19. Rob was our only rider today, he clocked 24m10s, winner was Simon Baxter in 20m 52s. Not many more now Tink.

August 18th.  Wednesday, the final BRC Evening `10` on Park Springs Rd.  Neil Dyson couldn`t make this event because of work committments, but it didn`t stop him from winning the Points Competition with 54 points, 2nd was Steve Roper with 45 points and 3rd was Wayne Randall with 42 points. August 7th.  Saturday, Lincoln Whs `Charity 10` on the A10/20 just south of Tuxford, Notts. This is a difficult course, half of it being on the A1 South where it was very fast and the other half on the `old` A1 with its slow surface and into the wind. Dek Crawshaw`s time of 22mins 11secs was only 18secs faster than Rob Barnard`s 22min 29secs (is it the new bike Tink ?). Alan Bullock riding his 1st open event of the year did very well with his 23mins 36secs. A very good ride Alan, keep it up. James Colman won the event with 19mins 44secs.

July 31st.  Saturday,  V.T.T.A. Yorkshire Group `25` Topcliffe area of N.Yorks. Rob Barnard hadn`t got his racing legs back on after holidaying in France but still managed to record a descent time of 1hr 02mins 11secs, The ride to the turn (11miles) was wind assisted but the 14miles coming back was anything but !    Michael Ellerton won in 52mins 52secs.

July 24th.  Saturday, Wold R.T. `10` on V718 at Newport near Hull. Dek Crawshaw 21mins 26secs (personal best). Steve Roper 21mins 53secs (personal best). Wayne Randall 22mins 53secs. Total of times (1-06-12) was 14secs off the club 10 mile team record. Hard luck lads. Michael Hutchinson set a new competition record of 17mins 51secs beating Bradley Wiggins`s time by `One` second.

Footnote.  Dek was delayed for a few seconds by a bus who`s driver didn`t see him. Steve had only just (11hrs earlier) returned from holidaying in Crete was suffering from lack of sleep and proper food. he was sick afterwards. Wayne had a trouble free ride till 1 mile to go when he unshipped his chain, he had to get off, untangle it, put it on and restart his effort. .......only 14secs was required.!!!!!!

July 17th.  Saturday, North Notts Olympic R.C. `25` A1, Nottinghamshire. On a very windy day `Tink` managed to get under the hour again, this time with a 59min 18secs ride. Keep it up fella.  Matt Bottrill was on top form as he won the event with a 49m 51s !!!!!  Same day, different event and course, V.C.Chesterfield `10` Hatfield Woodhouse. Still very windy from the SW. Dek Crawshaw could only manage 23m 50s for 10th place. Event was won by Richard Cordin in 21m 48s, that shows how hard it was. George Miles was DNS.

July 10th.  Saturday, Drighlington BC `25` North Yorkshire. `Tink` came close to beating the 1 hour barrier today with a 1h 00m 11s ride in this 2 lap time trial. With a SW wind helping going out but not coming back he reached the half way point in exactly 30mins but was slightly slower on the 2nd half. A good solid ride Rob. --- Wonder if he used the same saddle again ?

July 4th.   Sunday, Yeovil C.C. `25` (somewhere `darn sarth`). Rob Barnard chose this event to try out a new saddle - not a good idea Tink, as he did a saddle sore 1-02-11. The conditions were fine, sunny with a rising SW wind. The winner was Simon Edney 54-34. Just for interest, there were 2 other ex BRC riders competing, John Clemit (Yeovil CC) 1-03-48 and Alan Smith (Gillingham & Dist.CC) 1-06-13. Well done all 3.

July 3rd.   Saturday, South Elmsall Social C.C. `10` at Hatfield Woodhouse using the slow O10/1 again. Tony Galvin did a 25m 57s ride and George Miles a 26m 17s. There was a strong wind blowing from the south west which made it hard out and not a lot of help coming back. Sunny then cloudy. Ian Dalton was the winner in 21m 23s.

June 26th.   Saturday, Velo Club Chesterfield `10` on the O10/1 at Hatfield Woodhouse. When the event started it was cloudy with a stiff SE wind blowing, it was warm & the sun did get out. George Miles having his 1st outing of the year clocked 26m 42s and Rob `Tink` Barnard clocked 24m 14s. Rambo Ramsbottom won with 20m 47s. he slowed a bit so it must have been windy !!!  V.C. Chesterfield will cease to exisit at the end of this year, Dave Hunter says it`s not viable with 4 members, Sorry to hear that Dave.

June 23rd.  Wednesday, with 8 events gone in the Evening`10`s Points Competition Neil Dyson is leading the way with 32pts. In 2nd spot is Wayne Randall with 30pts and 3rd is Steve Roper with 26pts.

June 10th.   Thursday, June club meeting. Wayne Randall and Derek Crawshaw are given Life Membership of the Club after 21years of continuous membership.     Congratulations

June 15th.  Tuesday eve. City R.C. (Hull) `10` on the V718 at Newport, Steve Roper did a quick time of 22mins 19secs. Winner Michael Hutchinson did 18m 08s. --- Wow.

June 12th.  Saturday, Sherwood CC `25` Nottinghamshire. Not such a good day - bit more wind. Tink went back half a minute from last week. But a 58m 28s was still a very good ride. Well done Rob. Winner today was Matt Bottrill 48m 52s.

Rob `Tink` Barnard

June 5th.   Saturday, Newark Castle CC `25`, a personal best ever for `Tink`. He recorded a 57mins 56secs on a hot day with thunderstorms promised in the area. A great ride Rob, well done.

May 22nd.   Saturday, Paul Ruta did an actual time of 58m 52s in the VTTA National Championship `25` at Carlton on Trent, unfortunately he got an 8 minute late start as well, otherwise this would have been the fastest `25`of the year. Hard luck Paul, it was a good ride anyway.  Hatfield Woodhouse, Sheffrec CC `10`. Tink did another good ride on this `slow` course when he did 24m 09s, he was only just over 3mins behind the winner Julian `Rambo` Ramsbottom who could only manage 20m 52s. He`s slowing down fella, you could have him next year.

May 18th.  Tuesday, City R.C.(Hull) `10` again on the V714 instead of the V718. I was at Howden at dinner time, it was sunny, warm and NO wind at all. 6 hours later and a strong East wind had got up turning it very cool. Steve Roper did a 24m 51s - `it was very tough, like pedalling in treacle coming back` he said.  Paul Ruta, not feeling his best was also struggling and recorded 25m 16s. The winner was Ric Handley with 20m 49s.

May 16th.  Sunday, in a L.V.R.C. road race at Scotch Corner Paul Ruta made several attempts to escape from the bunch, each time being brought back. (too many wheelsuckers eh Paul). In the end it was a massed gallop for the line and Paul not being a sprinter could only manage 12th. Better luck next time Paul.

May 15th.  Saturday, Y.C.F `10`, this event was scheduled for the V718 but a broken gas main meant it was switched to the adjacent V714 which goes from Gilberdyke to Howden and back on rough surfaced roads. Reserve rider Steve Roper decided to ride this slower course when he was offered a ride, if only for a hard training ride. So he wasn`t unduly dissapointed with his time of 24m 39s when the fastest time when he left was only 21m 14s which was about 2mins slower than the winning ride would have been on the V718. Conditions - sunny with a very strong head wind to the turn. Well done Steve.

May 8th.  Saturday, Drighlington B.C. `25` course the V232 in N. Yorks. Very strong head wind to turn, `Tink` said he was down to 15mph at times. On the very fast return leg he was mainly in 53x12 but just couldn`t make up the lost time. `Tink` finished with 1-02-51, winner was Derek Parkinson 53-18.

May 2nd.  Sunday, Rutland C.C.`s  38 mile L.V.R.C. road race at Harworth in Notts. Paul Ruta was in the over 60`s category and with 4 others broke away from their group and proceeded to catch the younger age group in front of them. This done, the `oldies` all went on the front to speed things up and ensure nobody else got across to them. When the sprint for the line came Paul couldn`t match three of his breakaway mates and took 4th place. Well done Paul, a real good effort.

May 1st.  Saturday, Sheffield Phoenix C.C. `25`, course - O25/11. Not too bad a day until it rained.  Rob Barnard set a new personal best time for this `orrible course when he did a 1h-01m-38s for 14th spot. Well done Tink, a real good ride. Nick Sparks won in 53m 19s

April 27th.  Tuesday evening, Birdwell Whs `5`, conditions were warm & breezy with a side/tail wind out and of course just the opposite coming back. Steve Roper set a new personal best time for the course - 13mins 39secs. Tony Galvin also rode recording 15mins 02secs. Well done `Galv`

April 25th.  Sunday, Paul Ruta & Alan Charlesworth rode the Clifton CC 46 mile L.V.R.C. road race. Paul rode in the `E`category & Alan in a `younger category`. A guy took off from the `E` group then Paul & 3others chased after him, result, Paul got 5th place in his category beating a lot of younger guys in the process. I don`t know how Alan fared but well done to you both.

April 24th.  Saturday, warm and sunny with a stiff southerly wind meant Rob Barnard had an easy fast ride to the turn in the Otley C.C. `10` on the V214 Topcliffe course in North Yorks. Coming back on the longer leg into a cross-head wind meant slower times for everyone and `Tink`was no exception with a disappointing 24m 08s. Never mind `Tink`  Lee Tunnicliffe didn`t do so well either with his winning 20m 34s.

April 20th.  Tuesday evening, unlike Sunday it was very windy and Birdwell Whs `5` on the A629 Thurgoland to Hoylandswaine was rather hilly to boot. Nether-the-less Steve Roper recorded a time of 14mins 19secs. not bad for a winter bike with tri-bars slung on.

April 18th.  Sunday, very little wind for the Team Swift `25`. This was the first time a Time Trial has been held on the A1 in the North Midlands Division for several years. 3 BRC members were riding and they were Paul Ruta, Steve Roper and Chris Greasley. Steve was fastest with 59-51, Paul was next with 1-01-31 and Chris doing a very creditable 1-07-49. For both Steve and Chris this was their first rides at 25 miles. Very well done to all 3. The winning time was 50mins 57secs, that shows this new course has very good prospects.

April 16th.  Friday evening, Dave Marsh - Universal Cycle Centre League (Track racing) at Quibell Park, Scunthorpe.  Chris Francis snatched 2nd spot in the `Unknown distance` event. Good lad, keep it up. Anyone else fancy track racing, go to B.C. website for more info.

April 10th.  Saturday, smashing day, best this year so far. Rob Barnard rode the Birdwell Whs `10` on the O10/1 (Hatfield Woodhouse course). With dead calm conditions at the H.Q. Tink thought it would be an ideal day,-- wrong, it was helping going out but into a wind on the way back. Tink`s time was 24m 19s, while `Rambo` did 20m 39s to win from Kev Dawson 20m 45s.Meanwhile out at Newport near Hull Steve Roper was tackling the Yorks. VTTA `10` on the V718. Steve was very dissapointed to record a slower time than last week on a better day, his time being 22m 37s. Tony Galvin & Paul Ruta were both D.N.S.

April 4th.  To find a report on todays Club Run go to `Club Runs` where you will find todays and all future club runs reports.

April 2nd.  Good Friday, cloudy and cool with a strong SE wind blowing. That was the conditions facing Rob Barnard, Paul Ruta and Steve Roper in the City RC (Hull) `10` at Newport near Hull. Steve was fastest B.R.C. rider with 22-24, next came Paul with 23-33 with Rob only 4secs behind with 23-37. Winning time 19-41. The course is now littered with potholes causing 1 rider to crash, smashing his tri-bars and suffering head injuries. We all hope he soon makes a complete recovery.

March 28th,  Sunday, nice day for the 50miles in 4 hours Reliability Ride. 12 riders out for it. With a back to side wind for most of the course the 50 miles was easily covered in 2hrs 50mins riding time. There was a stop for a cuppa at Askern.

March 27th.  Saturday, N.M.C.F.`25`. Rob Barnard recorded 1hr 04min 14secs on a very cool but sunny day. A strong NW wind blew all riders to the 1st turn at Crowle but was straight into their faces coming back to Tudworth rbt. `Rambo`Ramsbottom was the fastest with 54-37. Well done `Tink`.

March 21st.  Sunday, first day of spring and at last it seems to have come, in nice sunny weather 9 riders went to Glossop including newcommer Mark Summerfield. On the way back over Woodhead one rider clocked 47 mph down to `The Flouch` and he isn`t the best decender. Next week its the `50miles in 4hours`. Dek has found an old route sheet and its just over `50` back to Barnsley, -- curious --- make sure you are at Townend for 9-00am.

March 20th.   Saturday, Rob Barnard rode the Retford & District Whs `10` using the A1  & the old A1 south of Tuxford. The first 4.7miles were on the old A1 (not a reponsive surface) then onto the A1 proper. `Tink` says he was doing 35mph at one point & never dropped below 28mph all the way to the finish. He finished with 23mins 21secs for 16th place.  The winner was Matt Sinclair 20m 41s. Well done `Tink`.

March 14th.   Sunday, 9 riders set off (including Alan Charlesworth) for a very hilly and tough run to Marsden. Straight into the cold NW wind with some long grinds up the hills. The average speed lifted by a large margin on the wind assisted return leg. All good training for next weeks run to Glossop.

March 13th.   Saturday, North Mids. VTTA 18km TT. Conditions were a bright sunny day with a bitterly cold NW wind straight into the faces of riders as they hit the hard section from Barnby Moor to Blyth. `Road Club riders Steve Roper did well to record 27m-28s with Rob Barnard not far behind with 28m-14s. The winner was I belive, Ian Dalton 23m-30s.

Meanwhile out at Barton-on-Humber a baptism of fire was taking place. Alan Charlesworth`s first roadrace --- and along side him was well seasoned Paul Ruta. It was a 45 kms Australian pursuit roadrace with a top class field. The pace was fast from the start with riders divided into groups according to ability and all groups trying to catch the group in front. Alan finish the course while Paul managed to get in a break with 3 others, only to be caught by a flying bunch. Well done lads, keep it up.

Steve Roper, N.Mids VTTA 18km TT, 13-03-10

March 7th.  Sunshine at last, after a cold start (9-00am) the run to Edale was enjoyed by 10 riders, with as one put it, `wall to wall sunshine`. Lets hope the weather has changed at last and its a decent day for next weeks run to Marsden. (hilly again).

March 6th.  More rain, this time at Clumber Park  where Kath Goldthorpe was taking part in a Duathlon. In a hard race Kath says she struggled with the running part but was happy with her time. Thats got the BRC outdoors racing season off to a good start.

Feb. 28th.  Heavy rain was forecast for the run to Osgodby, thank goodness it didn`t materialize. 11 riders left Townend around 9-30 am, the cool and cloudy conditions not detering them. The ride back was a little bit on the tough side, battling into a side to head wind.  Next weeks run to Edale in Derbyshire leaves Townend at 9-00am. Don`t forget.

Feb. 21st.   SNOW and plenty of it. Don`t think anyone got out to Lotherton Hall. It`s got to be better for this Sundays run to Osgodby near Selby.

Feb. 14th.  13 riders went to Calver in Derbyshire today under cloudy but dry skies. Dek found plenty of hills to test the legs. This must have been the best day of the year so far.  Next week its to Lotherton Hall -- will George make it,  come and see.

Feb. 7th.  Only 14 riders left Townend, Barnsley today for the run to Halifax, will it pick up again next Sunday when the run is to Calver in Derbyshire ? Come on guys blow that dust off them wheels.

Jan. 31st.    17 riders turned out on the clubrun which went to Oldcotes via Blyth today. This follows on to the 13 riders on the 16th (Hope), 15 riders on the 24th (Rothwell). How many will get out next week to Halifax ?

Jan. 29th.    Martin Dainty got the 1st place that he was looking for at the Manchester velodrome on Friday night. In the `Devil take the Hindmost` Martin broke away and won by half a lap. He also got a couple of 2nd places, one in the `40 lap scratch` and the other in the `Course de Primes`.  Keep it up Martin.

Martin Dainty, 1st in `Devil`,  29-01-10

Mark `Dogs` Davies is undergoing an opperation on a damaged shoulder that he obtained whilst motor bike racing last season. He looks like being out of action for at least a month.

Get well soon.

Jan. 22nd.   Martin Dainty got the year going with a 3rd and two 4th places at the Manchester Velodrome on Friday night. He is looking forward to improvements this coming Friday. For those not in the know, Friday night is when the top lads come out to play. Well done Martin.
