-----------------------------------------------------------
The LVRC has approximately 2000 members and currently provides a racing programme for its members of around 120 races in England and Wales from March through to October each year. In 2009 we had just under 80 different organisers who worked with their clubs and other helpers to deliver this programme. Our thanks go out to to all these people who make these races happen at the grass roots of level of our sport year in year out.
Over the past three years we have seen a slow but steady trend of reducing numbers of races and organisers. The effect of this is that races are sometimes over subscribed well before the closing date and increasing numbers of members are disappointingly having entries returned once fields are full. If this trend continues there is a danger that the LVRC will at best stagnate and in a worst case scenario cease to exist.
This letter is therefore being distributed as widely as possible to all interested parties asking them to consider organising a race in 2010. There are many clubs and riders who regularly ride the races but who put nothing back into the sport. Some of these clubs have large memberships and are in strong financial health. If members of a particular club feel they are too small to organise a race then there is nothing to stop them joining with another club to combine resources and and put a race on. It could be a road race, a closed circuit race, time trial, cyclo cross or mountain bike.
One of the great strengths of the LVRC is that it has an effective support infrastructure for organising races accessed either on the web site under the 'Racing Information' button on the home page or by talking to the Exec committee members or numerous other members with experience who will be willing to provide advice and help. The LVRC is not a bureaucratic organisation and has gone to great lengths to make race organisation as straight forward, cost effective and safe as possible. If costs are an issue locally then the LVRC will provide financial support for organisers.
If we do not see and improved position for 2010 then we feel we will have no alternative but to recommend to organisers that certain clubs and their members who are not contributing are put to the bottom of the lists, or even excluded, when race fields are being planned.
The Executive team of the LVRC therefore requests that all members and clubs who currently do not contribute to the race programme seriously consider promoting just one race in 2010 for the long term good of our sport.
LVRC Chairman and the The LVRC Executive Committee
A Saturday Road Race League is being planned for 2010, If anyone is interested here are the details so far.
The North Midlands Road Race League is proposing to run a Saturday afternoon series of 6 races during 2010 (see attached for details of proposal and possible circuits).
Whether this proposal gets off the ground is dependent on sufficient riders and helpers turning up at a meeting at The Butchers Arms, Braithwell, Near Maltby at 7.30 on Thursday 27 August 2009 ie the week after the last NMRRL event for 2009 at Stainton. The purpose of the meeting will be to agree whether the proposal for a Saturday league goes ahead and if so its final format eg how many races, dates, courses.

Would you please spread the word and encourage as many riders and others interested to attend and adopt the proposal and thereby enable the 2010 race calendar to proceed. If there is insufficient interest the proposal will not go ahead.
Many thanks
Yours in sport
